tidal pools

why are tidal pools important?

If you live in the tide pool, your house not only has to be underwater, but sometimes completely exposed on land, too. It is arguably the most competitive real estate in the ocean!

Tide pools can be home to about 700 different seaweed, 50 different slugs, and more--- in fact, there may be over 1,000 undocumented species living in the tide pools.

tide pools hold secrets...

To some scientists, they compare the importance of tide pools to the Amazon rain forest. This is because species here are unknown and may hold the next "miracle cure." If the algae and seaweed leave, so does the habitat for animals- including some species of sharks! This loss ripples up the food chain, all the way up to marine mammals and sea birds.
