Introducing Jordan’s chimaera (Chimaera jordani), but here’s a fun fact: there are some taxonomic problems involved with these animals and therefore the IUCN information that exists?
It’s only for those in a specific range. Specifically, around Japan and eastern Africa (e.g. off Madagascar and Mozambique); their range may be larger but scientists are unsure of that just yet. Little is known about these chimaeras because only a few specimens have been collected. That means we know nothing of their biology, habitats and ecology of this species. Due to this, C. jordani cannot be assessed beyond Data Deficient (DD).
