A Peek into College Life: HGV

2/7/2016

College is different for every person, even if they are in the same field. The #ASKTFUI series follows our officers who are in college, have recently graduated, or are in graduate school answer some questions regarding organization.

Name: Haxley Gomez Vigil
Education: Marine Biology (undergraduate)

How do you start your day?

My days start with me being annoyed I am awake and to lazy to get out of bed for awhile so I stay in bed reach for my DS play Pokemon demolish the elite 4 and champion like always and than I hop into a nice hot shower and my day starts off on a good foot.

What is the best way to stay organized on a tight schedule?

I like to keep my schedule locked in my head. And when I am in the shower I usually think of what I need to do and get done for the day.

What is one organizational item can you not live without?

The boiler. Keep the water nice and hot.

What do you do to stay focused on your work (i.e. what distractions do you get rid of)?

Distractions for me are video game consoles, when me and my roommate need to get some serious studying going on we have to leave our apartment and head to the library away from the wii, ps4, xbox 360, and the DS, I tend to get more done cause he sometimes ends of playing League of Legends on his PC and I can’t really with my Mac as well as he can.

What apps or programs do you use to stay on task?

The program I use is love, I love what I do so a lot of times I lose myself in what I am doing and only realize how much time has past when my stomach starts growly from being hungry.

What is your advice to someone still in high school?

Things happen and maybe you should let them. It was my friend from high school who made my twitter and instagram and pestered me into posting occasionally and if I didn’t do that I would have never found some amazing shark scientist on twitter to follow, wouldn’t had seen the research opportunity in the Netherlands I took, or known about The Fins United Initiative [at the time was Sarasota Fins]. So follow your passion but don’t kill yourself just go with the current.
